Jandarshan Training Course

PG Diploma in Digital Ideography

Affiliated with Makhanlal Chaturvedi Patrakarita Vishwavidyalaya,Bhopal

  1. Introduction

1.1  Background

This course is adapted from the thirty-month course awarding a diploma in digital video production which was run form 1999 to 2001 in Bhilai  by the Jandarshan /Images in Social change network as part of a project co-funded by the European Commission. The course was designed by Stephen jinks from Sheffield Independent Film and Television(SHIFT), an organization specializing in access training in the media.

This course adopted some of the theory and methods used in British Courses delivering the National Vocational Qualifications.

The new course retains the methods and objectives which proved successful but is adapted to last one  year.

1.2  Purpose

The course is designed to provide opportunities to enter the professionals media to students who lack the financial support and/or educational background to enroll in national media training courses. However, it will also suit well-qualified students with a special interest in the media as a tool for development. Teaching concentrates on skills required for relatively low budget video production for local communities. The curriculum does not assume either a prior knowledge of English or a high standard of formal education but does require an open mind and the ability to think literally.

1.3  Intended Outcome

Students completing the course successfully will have the skills necessary to work in supervised roles within professionals production or to apply for more advanced media courses. They will also develop social and critical skills of value in many  other professions and those who enter with the minimal qualifications will require a range of transferable skills including computer literacy, Basic English and administrative skills.

1.4  Methods of teaching and assessment

Teaching is practical and project based. The course consists of 12 units consisting of defined skills with defined criteria of assessment. In order to pass the units the students are required to provide evidence that they have acquired the relevant skills. Acceptable evidence is specified and includes project work, tutor observation, oral question and answer, written and practical tests.

The level of attainment measured by each unit is indicated on a scale of 1 to 4 whereby 1 indicates that a student can just perform  the specified tasks with support from teaching staff and level 4 indicates that the student can consistently perform without supervision and is ready to work professionally.
